BUILDING TYPE:
Buildings for TV and radio

This World Service building was one of Van den Broek & Bakema's earliest 'cruciform' designs. The zone where the two taller office wings intersect contains toilets, a staircase and a freestanding lift which projects outside the building so that its users can look along the intersecting elevations. Below the administrative wing are two hexagonal studios with acoustically attuned walls held clear of the upper storeys by a glass strip which continues in the set-back steel curtain wall of the ground floor. Since 2014 broadcasting company AVROTROS is established in the building.
