Designed in 1889 by J. Verheul, this town theatre was provided 50 years later with a lively new interior in which Van Ravesteyn's predilection for curves is given full rein. His attempt to combine modern materials and design principles with a Baroque ambience of decoration and ornament borders on the bizarre. The original main auditorium was chopped in two and the entrance moved to one of the sides. After several alterations, the building was restored in 1993. This included refurbishing the small auditorium, adding a backstage to the main one and inserting a cinema.
