In the early years of the 20th century De Utrecht, a life insurance company, commissioned several new buildings from the young architects J.F. Staal and A.J. Kropholler (see also the https://www.architectureguide.nl/project/item/prj_id/99" class="inline_link">branch office in Leeuwarden). In 1899 the company bought a country estate near Esbeek as an investment. A forestry post, a holiday camp for employees and a refreshment pavilion for ramblers and cyclists were built there later. The main attention-grabber is the forester's house with its fire lookout tower, a zinc-clad timber structure sitting atop the brick house with its stone accents.
