PRIVATE HOUSE VAN SLOBBE
RIETVELD VAN DILLEN VAN TRICHT, 1962-1964, Zandweg 122, Heerlen
ARCHITECT(URAL OFFICE):
Rietveld Van Dillen Van Tricht
PROJECT ARCHITECT:
Gerrit Rietveld
ASSISTING ARCHITECT:
Joan van Dillen
BUILDING TYPE:
Freestanding houses
This house, one of Rietveld's last, was built against the crest of a hill to give its occupants a magnificent view out from the living spaces and terraces. Its lower level contains the entrance and service spaces, the middle level living and reception areas and the upper level bedrooms. The concrete frame has an infill of large steel-framed windows and white glazed brick. The client was the director of a coalmine who not only had a large family to house but also required conference and reception rooms for his work. This explains the size of the house, more than 2,000 cubic metres.
