PHARMACY LEEUWARDEN
G.B. BROEKEMA, 1904-1905, De Tuinen/Voorstreek O.Z. 58, Leeuwarden
Art Nouveau buildings are few and far between in the Netherlands. This pharmacy is one of the few successful examples in this style, based on floral motifs, which flourished mainly around the turn of the century and represented a complete break with preceding styles. Moreover, unlike most of the other examples, the pharmacy has managed to avoid drastic disfigurement. Apart from the slate roofing, the entrance door, and the leaded glass toplights added in 1940, the facade is still in its original state.
