This building was seen particularly in the foreign architectural press as Oud's betrayal of the Modern Movement. The symmetrical office slab is accentuated on the ground floor by a low-rise feature terminating in a circular canteen. In its use of ornament the design seems a far cry from Oud's work of the 1920s. It ushers in his later period of less severe, more expressive work though never as extreme as here.
