A typical subject for architects of the Delft School was the town hall. This one illustrates the existing social order and Dutch tradition through symmetry, a stately entrance and allegorical sculpture. The natural stone ornamentation and almost Romanesque sobriety of the interior show Kropholler to be still influenced by Berlage; brick facades, timber roof structure and tall stepped gables illustrate his predilection for tradition.
The Waalwijk Town Haal is characterized by the use of large brick and by its stepped gable. The sandstone cow and ox on both sides of the entrance terrace symbolize local industries cattle breeding and leather industry.
Other buildings around the Raadhuisplein from the same period are also designed by Kropholler.
