This traffic control post for shipping is located beyond the former dyke where the river Waal meets the Maas-Waal canal. The ellipsoidal three-storey building perches on a concrete plinth and is connected to the shore by a long footbridge with walls to keep out the wind. Halfway across, this bridge splits, one component rising towards the wind-free entrance and the control room, the other descending to the plant rooms. The river traffic can be observed from the control room through an elongated horizontal incision in the titanium panel clad facade. On the uppermost level are a sheltered roof terrace and offices dotted with narrow viewing slits.
