At the end of the 1990s the stadium of Sparta football club was drastically altered. The so-called 'Kasteel', the main building designed by De Roos & Overeijnder in 1916 and inspired by a castle (hence its nickname), was the only part to be retained and renovated. The pitch was rotated 90 degrees and graced with new stands able to receive 11,000 spectators. All entrances are now in the rounded corners. The new main block of offices and business units is located directly opposite the Kasteel, with its entrance and car park off a major link road. The projecting rectangular office portion is clad in Western red cedar.
