BUILDING TYPE:
Special accommodation
Here, two oblong portions configured as a vertical cross contain 104 apartments for over 55s. The horizontal part is held aloft on V-shaped pairs of columns standing in an ornamental pool. Below this part, in the water, is the central recreation room. Various other communal amenities occupy the ground floor. There is a parking facility for 51 cars below the site, accessed down a spiral ramp. But the most striking features are the undulating balconies whose horizontal floor slabs and vertical partitions wind their way over the facade at distances that vary between 0.8 and 2.4 metres. This undulating effect is strengthened by the balcony railings which sway to and fro to the rhythm of the floor slabs.
