High-Rise Zone Rotterdam

Built to a design by the German-American architect Helmut Jahn, the Blaak Office Tower stands on the site of a retail building which had managed to survive the 1940 air raid. This American-style high rise responds to the nearby Schielandshuis with a low annexe and a concrete 'grid' and is rounded towards the Blaak to underline its independence. The cornice resorts to a similar concrete gridwork.
