Kleinpolder was the first residential district to be built after the Second World War. Divided by the Rotterdam-Delft motorway into an eastern and a western part, the district further divides into eight housing complexes each of 100 to 550 units set against a circular road that enfolds some of the existing village buildings and commuter dwellings. The blocks, mainly low- and medium-rise of between two and four storeys, are grouped in an open spatial configuration based on variants of the open row layout. One part of it, Welschen 7, has been drastically renovated, though retaining part of the original concrete structure as a monument.
