A prize-winning design (for another site) in the 1991 Europan brought Van Gameren and Mastenbroek the present commission. This elongated apartment building breaks down into a number of disengaged volumes. A noteworthy feature is the roof-top parking deck accessed by car lift. This leaves the ground level free for housing as well as space between the component volumes for gateways to the public garden beyond. Differences in height and in the position of the external gallery, plus variety in the cladding material serve to subtly distinguish one volume from another.
