Urban Renewal Oude Westen
One of the very first urban renewal projects in the https://www.architectureguide.nl/project/item/prj_id/195" class="inline_link">Oude Westen consists of five small blocks on Diergaardesingel and on Gouvernestraat. The housing blocks each contain two stacked maisonettes. Galleries accessing the flats on the first and second floors are reached from striking semicircular stair towers on the street side. First-floor flats also have an informal entry at ground level. The uppermost maisonettes in the block on Diergaardesingel have three storeys. The gallery on the first floor is 2.5 metres wide and intended as additional pavement space and a place where children can play. All daytime living space overlooks the street, with all bedrooms at the rear.
