A Europan competition elicited a masterplan for the so-called CiBoGa site, a post-industrial inner-city area, translating the existing visibility lines in and around the site into green zones. The built component consists of 13 ‘schotsen’ (ice-floes), compact urban volumes amidst the green space. The first two, designed by S333, are residential blocks that wind their way across the site following the differences in height and alignment of the surrounding fabric. Their facades are clad with assorted glass types and cedarwood panels. The housing units in the rows are accessed from semi-public courtyards. Sedum, grass and gravel roofs ease the buildings into their green setting.
