This project is one of the first examples of the transformation of old docklands into residential areas. It belongs among efforts to enliven the city centre with housing and the tendency towards the small-scale typical of the 1970s. Each of the three piers contains an elongated U-shape of housing with a tall portion on the north side and a less-tall portion on the south side. Between these is a raised 'living-street', with parking facilities below it and the buildings. The blocks rise in height to a maximum of nine storeys at Glashaven.
