Two islands in well-watered Twiske-West are given over to 212 rented homes divided among elongated residential courts and circular urban villas or ‘drums’. In the latter, seven units clustered around a core shift one segment of the circle with each of their three storeys. This wraps each dwelling around a segment of 154 degrees, ensuring ample sunlighting. The staggering of windows and the diagonal weatherboarding was prompted by this spiral configuration. Parabolas in the roofs of the ‘court-houses’ echo the shape of the noise baffles nearby.
