Housing Block De Hoge Heren
Four separate towers combine in this 61,5 meter tall housing block honouring the building lines of Jo Coenen's urban plan for KNSM Island. Climb the generous stairs to the semi-public pedestrian deck atop the basement of the block and the water of the IJ stretch out before you. The facade can be identified by its prefabricated concrete skin enveloping the entire mass, with deep incisions articulating the four component towers. A grid of vertical and horizontal joints in the abrasive surface of the anthracite-coloured cladding panels calIs into play a sophisticated game of light and shadow.
