One of the few 'company towns' in the Netherlands, Heveadorp was built to house workers at the Hevea rubber factory. Though social considerations also played a role here, the main purpose of the village was to entice workers to a factory way off the beaten track. Its dwellings with their characteristic thatched roofs have been supplemented over the years with a post office, shopping facilities and a school. The village was renovated during the 1980s.
