Urban plans
The urban plan for Molensloot housing estate was drawn up by Van Eesteren. Following his appointment in 1929 as head of town planning in Amsterdam the scheme was fleshed out by Merkelbach & Karsten. The dwellings were designed to functionalist principles and thus constitute an exception in The Hague before the war. However, given its brick facades pointed up with concrete balconies and lintels, it might be better to regard it as a synthesis of functionalism and the Hague School.
