VILLAPARK MARLOT, PARKFLAT
J.J. BRANDES, 1923-1924, Marlotlaan, Zuidwerflaan, Den Haag
Co Brandes is the principal representative of the Hague School, a geometrical decorative style of brick architecture inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright and Berlage. In Marlot villa park, on which W. Verschoor (Hofzichtlaan) and J.J. Hellendoorn (Marlotlaan) also worked, can be found several of the better examples of the style, particularly Brandes' own contributions at the intersection of Zuidwerflaan/Van Hoeylaan and at Zuidwerfplein. The Parkflat on the edge of the area is a successful bid to apply this style to a large-scale apartment building.
