Although this project for an art academy is in fact a refurbishment, it can perhaps better be described as a restyling. FAT, the UK architectural practice, changed some of its facades, demolished the odd element or two, opened up the interior, improved the routeing and designed several additions. Their most important intervention was to introduce decoration, both inside and out. This ornamentation consists of storey-height precast concrete members wrapped like a screen round the school, and a painted frieze in the interior. The forms derive from the neighbouring park and the Gothic style of the church in the centre of Boxtel. The former gym was converted into an auditorium.
