H.H. VAN DER KLOOT MEIJBURG, -, Parkweg 7, Voorburg
ARCHITECT(URAL OFFICE):
Herman van der Kloot Meijburg
BUILDING TYPE:
Self-designed houses
Semi-detached houses
In 1921, the architect Herman van der Kloot Meijburg (1875-1961) built a double house in Voorburg. Behind his own house at no. 7 was his architectural practice with one room for business and one for drawing. For
the interior he approached Vilmos Huszár, whom he knew from Haagsche Kunstkring (The Hague’s art circle). Huszár worked on space-colour compositions in primary colours, the net result being bare, sparsely furnished spaces. Van der Kloot Meijburg’s wife was less than enthusiastic and had everything painted white in her husband’s absence. Huszár also designed the leaded windows in the stairwell, one of which is still in place.
