A ‘construction kit for architects’ is the key component of Jo Coenen’s urban-architectural plan to weld together architecturally the various renewal operations along Vaillantlaan. The facades, dictated by a monumental grid with strong 19th-century leanings, were assembled by the invited architects from a standard set of components. These components were then manufactured in large numbers to achieve, in theory at least, a better price-quality ratio for this social housing.
