Louis Le Roy, the ‘wild gardener’, has been working on this project for the past 30 years. All that time he has let nature take its course in the meadow while building structures himself. Thousands of lorryloads of discarded street rubble have been dumped here over the years. From these bricks, paving stones and kerbstones Le Roy erects solid structures which are then claimed by the unhindered growth of trees and plants while Le Roy resumes building elsewhere on site. This unbroken creative process with neither beginning nor end has meanwhile brought a fascinating fusion of nature and culture to bear. A foundation set up by Le Roy, TIJD (Dutch for time), is to ensure that the process is continued as far as the year 3000.
