Designed by Na-Ma Architecture, the tea pavilion serving the visitor centre at the Schovenhorst estate occupies an enclosed garden along with a former greenhouse wall and some existing barns. The design refers in both form and materiality - timber frames finished with grey fibre cement panels - to barns and to the traditional 'stolp' farmhouse with its cloche roof. Standing in the woods a short distance away is an all-steel lookout tower designed by SeARCH Architects as the visual continuation of a walk through the estate where visitors can come to experience the space between and above the trees. The 40-metre-tall tower culminates in a round panorama platform 17 metres in diameter, itself planted with trees. This is reached in a winding ascent along stairs, pause points and a climbing frame. One such stopping-off point is an enclosed observation post with bird boxes built into the walls.
