LIBRARY, SCHOOL OF MUSIC ZEIST
J. HOOGSTAD, 1982-1986, Markt 1, 3, Zeist
This combined central library and school of music illustrates Hoogstad's theories of a mathematical architecture based on geometric forms. It comprises a triangle (a stipulated condition) inscribed by a square with rounded corners, twice intersected by main sightlines and circulation routes from a staircase projecting through the envelope. This gives rise on the ground floor in particular to a capacious library space; the rest, however, tend to be angular leftover spaces under the slogan 'function follows form'.
