Most of this 142 metre high Hoftoren was earmarked for the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science during the development stage. It combines a low-rise portion of 15 storeys and a 29-storey tower united in a U-shaped flourish. The less-tall part closes ranks with the buildings housing the Ministries of Housing, Spatial Planning and Environment (
VROM) and Health, Welfare and Sport (
VWS). The facades with their big metal-framed windows and stone cladding panels are held in a large metal framework; the window frames in the tower thrust upwards to culminate in an oblique point, hiding the mechanical and electrical services on the way. In the centre of the U is an office landscape in the more literal sense.
