This bridgehouse is manned for just a few days a year. Little more than a sheath for an automatic switching station serving two bridges, it stands at a pivotal point in the town where the route from the station to the inner city crosses the canal. BAR designed the prismatic glass envelope round the required plant. Its form is the product of all-round views for the bridgemaster and directional lines from the immediate surroundings. In the striking green of the screen-printed glass and its prism shape the modest building resembles a costly diamond. It earned BAR the AM NAi Award for Young Architects in 2006.
