COUNTRY HOUSE WYLERBERG
O. BARTNING, 1921-1924, Rijksstraatweg 178, Beek
This villa, which relocated to the Netherlands following a boundary adjustment in 1949, is one of the purest utterances of German Expressionism. The star-shaped plan and folded plate roof create a composition assembled from many irregular surfaces. Its architectural climax is the music room on the north side with its view of the valley. The house has a rich cultural history as the client, Marie Schuster, and later her daughter Alice, organized concerts there and invited artists to stay.
