Willem Marinus Dudok
Built before the war, this 12-storey office tower survived the bombardment of 1940 along with the exchange, the post office and the city hall. With its elevations rising out of a black granite plinth, it visually marks the end of Coolsingel. The low-rise portion is on columns to retain a view through of the historic Schielandshuis and its garden. This objective architecture is the result of functional requirements, yet displays Dudok's characteristic decorative touches.
