OFFICE BUILDING R. MEES & ZONEN
BRINKMAN & VAN DER VLUGT, 1929-1931, 's-Gravendijkwal 108/Mathenesserlaan, Rotterdam
At about the same time that its ultra-traditionalist https://www.architectureguide.nl/project/item/prj_id/1491" class="inline_link">headquarters on Blaak to a design by Kropholler were under construction, the firm of Mees engaged the most modern architects in the country for this bank branch on 's-Gravendijkwal. It stands on a comparatively small site (8 x 12.5 m.) on the corner of two major streets. The basement, accentuated by its black stone cladding, contains the public zones with offices on the first floor and a caretaker's lodge, archives and coffee room on the two floors above. The exterior is more or less in its original state, though the interior has been altered.
