A great many functions are brought together in this institution for the education of deaf and dumb children, including classrooms graded in age and degree of ability, an audiological and paedological centre and restricted living space for pupils. These functions are accommodated in three volumes; a nine-storey main building served by a freestanding stair and lift tower, a four-storey pavilion of classrooms in a grape-like cluster and a discrete gym block. Light incidence and acoustics were key considerations in the design.
