The building of the Arts Academy consists of three main blocks on a square site with a symmetry axis along the diagonal. All rooms face a central meeting space with a public roof terrace. This creates a compact, introverted whole: a citadel. The lecture rooms, volumes of double height with a mezzanine level, receive an assortment of lighting mainly via roof lights. All 150 spaces are different, further emphasized outside by the cappings, ornamentation and facades. Opposite the Academy stands the School of Architecture, home to Groningen’s Architecture Academy.
