Granpré Molière, leading light of the traditionalist Delft School of architecture, designed a complex of 282 workers' dwellings and a home for the elderly opposite the prototypically modernist Bergpolder housing block. Yet aside from the pitched roofs and traditional construction there is little that is conservative about this complex. The yellow brick and steel frames, the open ends of the blocks and the partly shared gardens and most of all the vertical strips of fenestration at the porches are as functionalist as they come. The complex was renovated between 1989 and 1995, an operation that included combining some units, replacing the steel window frames with aluminium and reinstating the original colour scheme on the street side.
