An acronym for Welcome into My Backyard, WiMBY! is an independent organization entrusted with supervising the restructuring of Hoogvliet. WiMBY! has developed and put in place a rich mix of experimental buildings, small projects and joint ventures relating to architecture, urban design, visual art and sociocultural projects. One of the first initiatives is the Green Seams study being carried out by the MaxWan practice into means of spatially relating the various interventions in Hoogvliet. Another initiative features Parasites, alternative makeshift rooms for schools that can be used as standard classrooms but more importantly for additional school activities. Three of these Parasites, designed individually by Christoph Seyferth, Barend Koolhaas and the Onix practice, were delivered to three Hoogvliet schools in 2004. A hobby park, Heerlijkheid Hoogvliet, was opened on the northern rim of Hoogvliet in 2008. Its programme steps off from residents' wishes and involves a host of facilities including the Villa, a multi-functional festive hall. Projects to be concluded in the period ahead include Campus Hoogvliet, a joint new-build venture for three secondary schools, and Cohousing, a themed form of communal living that divides into Hof van Heden, for residents who set store by a healthy and responsible lifestyle, and Live with Music, targeted at mainly professional musicians (24H Architecture and Van Bergen Kolpa).
Projects: Chr. Seyferth, Onix, B. Koolhaas (Parasites, Lengweg 146, Othelloweg, 2003-2004), S. Jacob (FAT Architecture), Korteknie Stuhlmacher (Heerlijkheid Hoogvliet, 2002-2007)
