One of the first of the Kop van Zuid buildings was designed by Norman Foster and Partners, who also drew up the master plan for the Wilhelmina Pier. The building is in fact little more than a glass box enveloping the actual simulator, an imitation ship's bridge from which one can virtually navigate ocean-going vessels, set in a drum attached to the roof by a strip of glass which lets sunlight in onto the walls. In section, with the first floor jutting out over the street, it takes its cue from the existing arrivals hall of the Holland Amerika Lijn, part of which houses the Centre's ancillary functions.
