BUILDING TYPE:
Buildings for education

This ensemble combines a primary school of six classrooms with an infants' school of two. The L-shaped rooms have a raised level on the outer wall and a rooflight marking each entrance. In the centre of the primary school hall is a square platform, counteracted in the infants' school by a sunken area for sitting with removable wooden blocks. According to Hertzberger both these elements should generate and stimulate activities because of their very inflexibility and on occasion just by being in the way. The school has been enlarged several times by its architect, in 1968, 1970 and 1981.
