To the original building designed by P. de Vries in 1934 Abe Bonnema added a freestanding extension incorporating the facades of an earlier extension done in 1971. The Bonnema extension refers to De Stijl with a system of projecting white rendered slabs freely interrelated in an orthogonal grid, in-between which are rectangular masses clad with mirror-glass in a taut square grid. It forms a stark contrast with the architecture of the original building. The municipal hall has since been extended yet again.
