SUPERMARKET ZEEWOLDE
SJ. SOETERS, -1993
Kerkstraat 26/Horstersteeg, Zeewolde
ARCHITECT(URAL OFFICE): Sjoerd Soeters BUILDING TYPE: Shops PUBLICATIONS: H. Ibelings - Sjoerd Soeters, architect, 1996
Soeters, 'the naughtiest boy in Dutch architecture', is one of the few architects in the Netherlands to have embraced the more frolicsome brand of postmodernism. Four two-storey blocks of housing rise in height atop an open glazed basement containing a supermarket. The blocks are articulated individually by waving-flag facades in mischievous pastel hues. The zebra code emblazoned on the rear elevation refers to the retail function on the ground floor.
