Is it art or architecture? This thought must cross the minds of many visiting this pavilion, a joint venture between architect Lars Spuybroek and composer and sound artist Edwin van der Heide, on an industrial estate near Eindhoven. The only correct answer is a counter-question: what difference does it make? Son-O-House is a network of sound sculptures and spaces assembled from curved steel sections and steel netting meshed together using a minimum of means, a three-dimensional network that caters to all the senses. If anything is space art, this is it. The computer played a key role throughout, from designing the pavilion to manufacturing the steel ribs and generating the sound sculptures.
