Sitting atop two levels of parking, Zuidplein shopping centre also connects directly to the metro station at 6.6 metres above street level. Pedestrians make their way across the roaring traffic along three concrete bridges. The shopping zone is informed entirely in terms of the interior; the shops line four roofed streets that converge at a central clearing of 100 by 40 metres and 12 metres high. The building's exterior has had a somewhat raw deal, though this is obviated by the fact that the shopping complex has since been hemmed in by offices and housing blocks.
