This railway station is one of the 80s generation (Zaandam, Sloterdijk, Almere) whose platforms possess a spectacular space-frame roof. Assembled using the 'Mero'-system the one here rests on six polyhedral supports, stepping up to accommodate the traverse above the platforms. Polyester roof lights and a cladding of corrugated transparent PVC sheets ensure ample lighting. The station was designed together with an office block and shopping centre.
The station is part of the urban renewal of the city centre and hidden by the City Hall by Sjoerd Soeters.
