STUDIO HOUSE ROLAND HOLST
M. STAAL-KROPHOLLER, 1918-1919, Roosendaalsebaan 15, Achtmaal
During the years 1918-1919 Margaret Staal-Kropholler designed for the Van der Schalk family a barn, a pigsty, a remodel of a forester's house and a studio for the artist R.N. Roland Holst. The studio has a kite-shaped plan splayed on one side and dominated by a tall thatched roof. At the broad side to the north is the studio with a large, tall window, at the narrow side the 'south room'. According to Roland Holst, 'It is charming and rural and practical all at once'. In 2011 the house burnt down after restoration. It was reconstructed in 2012 and is in use as holiday residence. (www.natuurmonumenten.nl/vakantiewoning-atelier-roland-holst)
