Shops

Huge American-style shopping centres of anonymous sheds are making an appearance on the edge of Dutch cities too. This urban cluttering of the countryside detested by many designers has been avoided in this retail park through the concentrated volume of shops, the inclusion of an outdoor plaza, the uniform look of flowing forms and characteristic blue-and-purple sandwich panels and the systematic configuration for advertisements with elegant billboards on the facades and open-work tower-like constructions at the corners. Behind the frivolous fronts resides a flexible structure, a steel frame on a grid of 8.1 metres. All loading bays are concentrated on the outer edge.
