In 1930, two years after his head office for Philips was in place, in-house architect Dirk Roosenburg went on to realize this strapping concrete L-shaped factory building. In the mid-1990s it took on a cultural function as home to the Eindhoven Architecture Centre (ACE), the Design Academy and the European Design Centre, together with a public library. The architect stripped back the building to its concrete and steel shell, attaching new elements to it. Part of the construction was removed to mark the new main entrance and auditorium, exposing the bare bones of the facade. At the building’s centre is a open ‘light plaza’ featuring various interactive light installations.
