It was a foregone conclusion for architect Jan de Bie Leuveling Tjeenk (1885-1940) that the windows of the new office building for F.W. Braat’s Koninklijke Stoomfabriek (steam-powered foundry), which produced castings in zinc and other metals, would have steel frames. He applied this signature material in different ways, such as in the facade in a deep reveal and flush at the bay window. Inside, there is not a trace of wood to be found. The architecture is functionalist with echoes of Frank Lloyd Wright. Vilmos Huszár designed a leaded window for the stairwell. After functioning for a while as a social service office, since 2009 it has housed a mix of commercial units with a café brasserie, aptly named Huszár, on the ground floor.
