The OT theatre group has been housed since 1986 in the former office building of a port employers' association (Scheepvaartvereeniging Zuid). The theatre auditorium of those days, a former sample room, had a timber frame and roof. These were taken as the stepping-off point for the new addition. The new auditorium of untreated birch plywood is a magnified replica of the original, giving the familiar theatre ambience a contemporary edge. This new version occupies a neutral steel box set along the west side of the existing building. Its opaque portion is clad in anthracite-coloured perforated steel panels 60 cm high and powder-coated a bright orange.
