WiMBY!

Heerlijkheid is a local park laid out as part of WiMBY! (Welcome into My Back Yard!), the restructuring programme for Hoogvliet. Its contents include small pavilions for hobby associations in Hoogvliet. At its heart is a community building, the Villa, whose basic disposition of spaces include a double-height festive hall, a café and rooms for evening classes upstairs. The exterior of this elementary building is treated as a decorated shed, in which cut-out features of the timber cladding are decorative references to Hoogvliet: trees (Hoogvliet's green aspect), the petrochemical industry as a skyline and most strikingly the 2-metre-tall pink letters. The entrance is framed by a stylized polyester tree.
