Tilburg's town theatre is usually mentioned in one breath with the theatre of Nijmegen. In the Tilburg theatre the auditoria, the main one seating 900, are stacked. The semicircular volume of the main auditorium has its entrance, stairs and foyer in an elongated portion. A stone's throw away from the theatre is an 'arts cluster' combining a concert hall seating 800 and spaces for the conservatoire and dance academy. The ear-shaped concert hall thrusts up several metres above the 58 x 58 metre perimeter block. An elongated component clad in corrugated sheet (the dance academy) links this block to the modest rectangular conservatoire which has been lifted into space to provide a way through to the former monastery garden. Wood panelling and glass grace the facades of both perimeter block and conservatoire, whether in combination or individually.
